James' first wife, Nancy Warnick [born March 9, 1856 in Carrol County, Georgia to Lindsay and Julia Elitha Matthews Warnick] gave birth to Mary on December 31, 1877. Nancy died on January 6, 1878. Little Mary followed on January 11, 1878. They are buried in Savoia Valley, Valencia, New Mexico along with eleven other "Arkansas Travelers" who contracted smallpox.
